Gamma dose rate data on the training ship "Shintoku-maru" of about 〓〓00 gross tons were obtained with ion-chamber type dosimeters, by placing a 0.1 mCi Co 60 gamma source on the second deck corridor and in a drying room on the lower flat.Calculations were performed on the NEAC 2206 computer with the codes "MARINE-I" and "MARINE-II" which assume an inverse square law of attenuation with distance and Peebles' build up factors. All observed data fell below the expected levels, but the comparison seems to show there are superimposed effects of a systematic deviation together with some random variation. The results suggest that a correction factor is needed in such complicated radiation shields and some improvement of the build-up factor treatment is required.
