Beginning with the pioneer work by HENKING (1890) in Europe, chromosome investigations of butterflies have called special attention of many authors in the field of animal cytology. Particularly, the contributions to the evolutionary mechanism of chromosomes in related species of butterflies owe very much to the work done by the following authors; BELIAJEFF ('30) for Russian species, FEDERLEY ('38, '42) for Finnish members, LORKOVIC ('41, '49, '54, '55, '57, '58) for European forms, DE LESSE ('51, '52, '53, '54, '55, '57, '60) for European forms, MAEKI ('53, '57, '58, '59, '61) for Japanese species, MAEKI and REMINGTON ('60a, '60b, '61a, '61h) for North American species. The authors wish to contribute by this paper to the chromosomes of butterflies in Formosa. Formosa is well-known for abundance in species of butterflies: as many as 362 species have been described from this country (SHIROZU '60). The present paper records the chromosome features in 25 species of Formosan butterflies.
