Unsteady boundary layer characteristics on rotating propeller blades are calculated numerically. Unsteady boundary layer equations are simplified with quasi-three-dimensional approximation to achieve computational efficiency. A relatively simple, yet efficient and accurate finite difference Oskolkov's scheme is extended to quasi-three-dimensional calculations and adopted. Accuracy of the code was validated with experiments of oscillating flat plates. Significant unsteady effects on propeller boundary layer characteristics are calculated especially when strong unsteady separation occurs on blade surface. Almost no discrepancy is predicted between unsteady and quasi-steady calculations if no strong separation is existing.
