The effect of the steady wave field on the unsteady wave field is numerically studied utilizing a desingularized Rankine panel method for a blunt ship. The steady problem is solved so that the fully nonlinear free-surface condition is satisfied numerically. The unsteady problem is solved taking account of the influence of fully nonlinear steady wave field through the free surface and body boundary conditions. The results obtained for a Series-60 (C_b=0.8) are compared with experiments, the strip method, the Green function method and a linear Rankine panel method based on the double-body formulation. Finally the performance of the present Rankine panel method is discussed on the prediction of hydrodynamic forces and the wave field.
