Some Expressions of Pulsating Source Potentials in Shallow Water and Their Efficient Algorithms

The three dimensional singularity distribution method is one of the most powerful tools for predicting wave hydrodynamic loadings on marine structures. However, its application to shallow water wave problems has still been limited in the practical design stage because of high computer cost due to the time-consuming shallow-water Green function calculation. Further acceleration of the shallow-water Green function calculation is inevitable to make the singularity distribution methods more accessible from economical point of view. In the present paper, some alternative expressions of a pulsating source potential in water of constant depth, especially some principal integral type expressions powerful in the vicinity of its singularity, are derived and their efficient algorithms are also presented. Some pilot calculations illustrate that the alternative algorithms are fast and accurate enough so that they can reduce the computing time 2-3 times larger than for deep water. Then, the calculation of the shallow-water wave forces by three dimensional singularity distribution methods can be greatly improved in computational economy and accuracy.
