In the turning trial of a high speed craft, the unusual phenomenon in turning ability which the tactical diameter at the rudder angle of 30° is larger than that of 15° has been observed. The several experiments using this craft were carried out, and noticed the existence of air drawing from transom bottom to rudder. From the results of these experiments, we recognized that an adaption of a small overhang plate of full beam in the form of extention of transom bottom shell plate was very effective to prevent the phenomenon of air drawing. In this opportunity, we analized the many results of the turning tests of high speed crafts, and obtained the design criterion to predict whether the air drawing phenomenon occurs or not in the vicinity of rudder of high speed craft.
