Wave drifting forces and moments acting on floating type offshore structure models in oblique regular waves were measured by the use of a newly designed drifting force dynamometer. The dynamometer has the same mechanism as a widely used 6-component ship motion detector with a double carriage (for swaying and surging). The drifting force was measured as the reaction force to keep a model in the mean position in waves, through the swaying or surging carriage loosely restrained by balance weights and soft springs. A set of dynamometer fore and aft on a model was used in order to measure not only drifting force but also drifting moment. Three models of typical floating offshore structures were tested in a seakeeping basin, and their characteristics on the drifting force were compared.
