Resistance tests were carried out for a ship model roughened locally in order to investigate local roughness effect on ship resistance. The ship surface was roughened by slime and abrasive papers, and tests were made varying the roughened part (lengthwise division) systematically. As a result, it was found that the effect of each part of ship on ship resistance increase is not equal even if each part has the same order of roughness. That is, the effect of entrance part of ship is larger among them. The same tendency was also obtained from theoretical calculation based on a method presented by Dvorak for roughened surface.
