In this paper, an estimating method of advance, transfer and time required to change her course 90 degrees in her turning is proposed. The proposed method is based on the records of turning tests of about 60 ships including various sizes and types. Refering to a theoretical analysis by Inoue and model test results carried out by Shiba, the above mentioned records of ship turning tests are reanalyzed and rearranged. Being given C_b/L/B, 2d/L, trim, initial speed and rudder force which can be obtained from rudder area, aspect ratio and rudder angle, the turning qualities of any ship is easily estimated with Fig. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 in the initial design stage.
