Hitachi mine founded in 1905 had equipped with full modern production facilities under the union-management unity philosophy, "One mine, one family", and had made rapid development. In the early years of Taisho era, (approx. 1912-1915) it was counted among the one of the Japanese four major copper mines with Bessi, Ashio and Kosaka. It is said that the employees of Hitachi mine had the strongest sense of belonging to the mine in the field of mine industry since this company started with the management philosophy, labor-management cooperation and coexistence and co-prosperity with local community, by familism of Fusanosuke Kuhara, the founder. Having created "temperament for surpassing others" and "Hitachi spirit" which the mine employees should have in common, Kuhara drew the picture of "ideal mine society formation" in which "nature, people and land" could co-exist with co-prosperity by Hitachi mine and its constituents. The founder's management view was placed as a management paradigm, that was, corporation philosophy. As a result, an influential and tight mine community had been constructed by using the corporation fictitious family system. This paper examines the tracks of the mine community formation, the starting point of Hitachi-shi, focusing on the fictitious parent-child relationship among mine workers as fictitious family, workmen's shack as a fictitious house and the professional ability group, "Tomoko", which stayed till the last in a metal mine.
