Recently, multiple arterial grafts have been used frequently for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, the late results of multiple arterial grafting remain uncertain. One hundred and seventy-nine patients were performed CABG using left internal thoracic artery (LITA) to left anterior descending artery (LAD) concomitant with vein grafts at St. Luke's International Hospital between July 1992 and December 1999. We examined a retrospective mid-term (up to 6 years) results of our cases comparing with these patients undergoing multiple arterial graftings with or without vein grafts at Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital and the other institute. The survival and event-free rates for the two groups at 3 and 6 postoperative years were not statistically significant. This study suggests that the use of LITA-LAD and vein grafts for CABG is appropriate.
