It has been 22 years since Vietnam government launched“doi moi” policy in 1986. During the past two decades, even though the government made some mistakes and the economy is having many problems recently, but Vietnam's reform has been very successful so far. The major problem that the government is facing at the moment is how to take the balance between the increasing FDI (foreign direct investment) and the speed of opening its domestic industries, especially financial sector. This research discusses the background and the details of the Vietnam's“doi moi”reform, and provides a summary of Vietnam's policy changes and its characteristics comparing to China's reform.
