ETS-VIII is the eighth Engineering Test Satellite in JAXA. It was launched on December 18th, 2006 and is currently operated in geostationary orbit located at 146degrees east for experiments of mobile satellite communications and satellite positioning. ETS-VIII has two large deployable antenna reflectors, which realized that the satellite can communicate with small and compact ground terminals. Four types of ground terminals were development for communication experiment. This paper describes these ground terminals and mobile satellite communications experiments with them.
