Numerical simulations of GPR performance in typical fault models of shield tunneling back-filled grouting layer were conducted using the FDTD solution over a 2D space. Simulated results indicated that the wave field consists of strong scattering induced by steel-bars in concrete segments of the shield tunnel. It is difficult to recognize the reflection of objects. A method is proposed for removing the scattering field, termed the Overlapping-Information Removal Method. The scattering field of steer bars, calculated in advance, can be subtracted from the observed total field, meaning that reflections from objects can be exactly extracted.
