It's said that the new gender division of labor is increased, instead of decreasing of traditional gender division of labor, for increasing woman's labor participation rate. Using data from the 1999 National Family Research in Japan, this study analyzed their psychological well-being. But findings indicated that their distress weren't higher than women's one under the traditional gender division of labor t and strain of family lives were slightly higher than the traditional women's one except working women who have little children. This paper concluded that images of women's heavy "double burden" under the new gender division of labor should be changed, because their psychological well-being weren't always lower than the traditional women. And findings also suggested that there was "sample selection bias" of working women, that is women suffering heavily from the double burden had been quitted their job.
