This paper has described five cases of flexible work and made clear the factors introducing the flexibility in the Netherlands. These five cases include one Dutch company and four Japanese subsidiary companies in the Netherland and are through interview with three Dutch and two Japanese HRM managers. The flexible work consists reduced working hours (Part time employment), flextime, telecommuting and compressed working hours. As a conclusion five characteristics has been expressed through the five cases. However the most fundamental factor is 'respect for individuals' based on individualism. Flexibility in working is recognized as a motivation factor in the Netherlands. On the contrary inflexibility in their work can prevent the company from motivating employees. This seems to bring out flexible work in the Netherlands. Moreover what is noticed by this research is a new direction. Flexibility of work would be developing as a element of social innovation in the Netherlands.
