It is considered that loading condition and water depth are important parameters for predicting ship manoeuvrability at the initial design stage. To predict ship manoeuvrability with high accuracy, it is required to estimate the hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship accurately under any conditions. First, the hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship in deep and shallow waters with the parameter of loading condition are shown using the proposed prediction method from the viewpoint of a practical design. Second, the manoeuvring performance of a full-scale ship are discussed and compared with sea trial results in deep water. Finally, the manoeuvring characteristics of a ship under any loading conditions are discussed with the effect of water depth.
