In order to understand the development of motor scooters, this study investigated relevant information of manufacturers and their products from historical references, relevant documents, and the Internet, to conclude the development process of motor scooters. The process could be divided into four developmental stages. Especially, Yamaha produced Passola especially for women, and opened the third stage of motor scooters due to the innovation of materials and engine technology, and the reorientation of motor scooters for female market in 1977. Honda manufactured non-petroleum motor scooters which applied storage batteries and fuel batteries as the sources of energy, created the fourth stage: electric scooters. We found out the evolution of products was not only influenced by the outer environment tremendously, such as the influences by social economy, living demands, and capabilities of technology and manufacturing, meanwhile, it was also affected by the competition of relevant products.
