I am interested in the theory of "the Vocational Development Stage" presented by Dr.D.E. Super and Dr.E. Ginzberg, especially in the definitions and characteristics of the stages covering the youth's period, in other word, the youth's age range. I have studied and investigated the matters for 10 years tracing 33 youths' careers individually for the purpose of making clear whether the above-mentioned theory is adaptable for the youths currently living in Japan. The investigations of two youth-groups have been carried on from 1978 and 1981 respectively, and recently based on the results, I am going to present some evidences that require important modifications on Dr. Super's "Growth stage-Interest stage and Capacity stage", and on Dr. Ginzberg's "the Period of Tentative Choices". As far as Japanese educational systems are concerned, in "the Interest stage" (from 11 to 12 years old) and "the Capacity stage" (from 13 to 14 years old), they are in the Junior High School. In these stages, the capacity factor has no influence on the tentative choices, but the interest and value factors play important parts. The capacity factor gradually play significant part after Senior High School period (from 15 to 17 years old), and those who have made favorable development are able to attain the career goal of "the period of tentative choices" in the latter part of the period by means of the capacity factors as well as other factors functioning collectively. In fact, the most of the senior high school students attain the goal after graduating fromthe senior high school course when they aquire enough capacity factor to function collectively with other factors, sometimes, their periods are extended to the times after entering universities, colleges or getting Jobs. It will take several more years to complete my study and investigation, at any rate. I am going to make clear the following facts: the causes of making favorable and unfavorable development; the reasons why the period of capacity factors functioning comes later compared with the Super theory taking into consideration of Japan's cultural background.
