Since many watches have come to use solar batteries, all parts and components of watches require low power consumption technologies. Although a liquid crystal also display requires low power consumption, there is a demand for using dot matrix displays, which consume more power than conventional segment displays, in order to show more information on the display. By using "surface stabilized ferroelectrics liquid crystal" (SSFLC) for the display, we developed an ultra-low-power-consumption full-dot-matrix display for solar battery driven watches. This display was used in a diver watch "AQUALAND" manufactured by Citizen.
