The purpose of this study is the elucidate of the change which comes along with age in the human mandibular condyle. One handred fourteen normal human mandibular condyles (males : 60, females : 54) were examined, they were fifth decade : 2, sixth decade : 18, seventh decade : 28, eighth decade : 39, ninth decade and over: 27. These human mandibular condyles were examined by microradiographic method. The following points have been found : 1. There is tendency that the maximam width of the human mandibular condyle increases over the sixth decade along with age. 2. The bone trabecula at the human mandibular condyle is reticulated and the coarse bone trabecula at the human mandibular condyle increases along with age. 3. The number and width of the bone trabecula at the human mandibular condyle decrease along with age. And the number and width of it are larger in males than in females. Furthermore the number and width of it are larger in from fourteen teeth up than in thirteen teeth and downwards. 4. The density of the bone trabecula at the human mandibular condyle clearly decreases along with age. 5. The thickness of the cortex of the human mandibular condyle decreases along with age, and the tendency is to be larger in males than in females. 6. The retio of the canal and osteon decreases slightly along with age, 7. The number of the lacuna at the condyle of the human mandibular condyle does not change along with age. These findings suggest that the human mandibular condyle changes along with age, and is influenced by the mastication.
