It was shown that the extreme susceptibility of adrenalectomized dogs to hemorrhagic hypotension was due to induction of histamine forming capacity in the liver causing hepatosplanchnic blood pooling. Glucocorticoid was found to prevent this induction of histamine forming capacity and rendered the animals tolerable to the hemorrhagic hypotension.
