The mass examination method for chronic sinusitis was studied. Based on the results of this study, the prevalence rate was calculated. The relationship between the prevalence rate in Chiba prefecture and regional differences, occupation, nutrition, climate, air contamination, bacteria in the air, size of paranasal sinuses and allergy were studied and the following results were obtained. 1) The prevalence rate in Ghiba prefecture was higher in the northern region than in the southern region and was higher in rural communities than in urban districts. 2) The most closely related item to the development of this disease, was nutrition and the intake of protein, minerals and vitamins. One of the reasons why this disease occurs much more frequently in production households (agricultural villages) is attributable to a smaller intake of protein, especially animal protein, fats, VA, VB_1, VB_2, VC in agricultural villages as compared with that in consumer households (salaried classes). 3) The next cause called to account will be a tenperature. It is a well-known fact that sinusitis is aggravated in the winter and improves in the summer. The prevalence rate in a certain school in Ghiba city in February was 52% while it was 36.2% in July. 4) The Pneumatisation of the paranasal sinuses will be worth consideration. The larger the size of the paranasal sinuses, the lower the prevalence rate. The coefficient of correlation was greater for the frontal sinus than for the maxillary sinus.
