• This paper analyzes the effect of television watching on children's performance in school using Japanese time use data. Using the number of viewable channels of commercial broadcasts as the instrumental variable, there is no significant effect of television watching on the children's performance in school. This is contrast to the result from the estimation without the instrumental variable method that the television watching negatively correlates with the performance.
