In Japan, it still indicates high infection rate in the agrarian districts and the mountain village compared with that of the cities, where the hookworm infection nowaday seems to be very rare. The average incidence of the country is reported about 20-30%. Besides, very high rate of infection can be seen in some parts of Southeast Asia and South America. From this standpoint of view, necessity should be discussed to renew understanding of epidemiology of the hookworm infection. Part 1. Observation from the Statistics of Mortality Thinking of the death toll and death rate (per one million people) of the hookworm infection from 1900 to 1962, next results were obtained. 1. The death toll indicated that total was highest in 1947, man's in 1950 woman in 1947 and all went lowest in 1962. In the same manner death rate showed highest in 1907 and lowest in 1962. 2. Death rate of 1960 and 1962 were observed. At the prefectural distinction in 1960, Kagoshima, Nara, indicated above 10 in man, Kagoshima in woman. In 1962 no provience above 10 existed and Kumamoto was higher between 5 and 9.9 in man, Hiroshima, Saga, and Kagoshima in woman. From the distinction high rate were showed in the central provience and Kyushu district. 3. On the death rate of prefectural distinction, two sexes were fitted in the Polya-Eggenberger distribution, but not in the poison distribution. 4. In 1962 elevation of death rate was found in people above forty. Further survey to divide generation into 2 groups of age 15 to 49 and above fifty pointed that the ratter had higher 15 to 25 times death rate than the former. Part 2. In order to clarify the route of infection in human host 8 to 12 infective larvae of Anchylostoma duodenale were put on the oral mucous membrane of four volunteers. For the contrast, 103 infective larvae of Necator americanus was also given to one on the same condition. 1. Invation rate of larvae of Anchylostoma duodenale through the oral mucous membrane was about 27.2 to 30.4%. The rate of Necator americanus 20.4 to 29.1%. 2. No subjective symptom was seen through all course of the infection in every case. 3. As to the objective symptoms leucocytosis, eosinophilia, fertilized eggs and larvae in feces were found in the case of Necator americanus. Any unusual sign was not seen in all cases of Anchylostoma duodenale. 4. The worms were found in case of Necator americanus after anthelmintic treatment. This percentage of the recovered worms to the invasive larvae was 6.7-9.5. Similary, it against the administrated larvae was 1.9%.
