Effects of Pink-Chloron (C_<34>H_<36>N_4SO_3Na_3Cu), a new chlorophyl derivative, on histological pictures of various organs were investigated using 37 days old female mice. They were subcutaneously injected with 1mgr/gr of aqueous solution of Pink-Chloron, and controls with distilled water, and after 13 injections, made once every 2 or 3 days, that is, after 30 days, organs were removed and fixed. Stainings were made with hematoxylin-eosin and PAS-hematoxylin. The results were as follows : 1) No remarkable findings were obtained in nervous system, lung, thymus, islets of Langerhans, medulla of adrenal gland, kidney, spleen, ovary, intestine muscle and connective tissue. 2) Slight change was observed in parenchymatous cells of pars intermedia and neural lobe of hypophysis, and of thyroid. And flattening of epithelial cells and decrease in secreted vacuoles were also noted in thyroid. 3) There were some alterations in anterior lobe of hypophysis, liver, exocrine portion of pancreas and cortex of adrenal gland : - tendency of increase in chromophobe cells in the anterior lobe, decrease in glycogen in marginal zone of liver lobule, increased density of distal parts of cytoplasm of the exocrine portion where ribonucleic protein is present, and enlarged zona fasciculata of adrenal cortex, resulting from shrinkage of zona reticularis. It is difficult to give an unequivocal explanation of these changes, but at least they can not be considered degenerative. There are only few studies on the effect of chlorophyl or chlorophyl derivatives on histological picture. B. Gruskin reported that administration of chlorophyl accelerated growth of connective tissue, and L. W. Smith found that chlorophyl derivatives were not only non-toxic to living body tissues, but also accelerative to growth of fibroblasts in tissue culture. In the present experiments, however, there were no findings such as growth of interlobular connective tissue, which support these reports. As to relation between chlorophyl derivatives and hepatic function, not a few works are known, and many of them reported their accelerative effects. Also in the present experiments, effect of one of them on liver glycogen was disclosed, but as to its effect on hepatic function, it is not easy to give any couclusive view. J. Q. Griffith reported inhibitive effect of the derivatives on experimentally produced lymphedema. But no reports on their effects on endocrine system have been found. The action mechanism of the chlorophyl derivative remains in perfect obscurity. As to whether or not it acts as an enzyme, L. W. Smith did not deny its possibility. Nor can we overlook biological actions of Cu ions and sodium sulfite which will be separated during the process of decomposition and excretion of chlorophil derivatives in the body. These points remain to be elucidated by future studies.
