The author made statistical observation of 1000 patients with cervical carcinoma treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecolagy, School of Medicine, Chiba University Hospital from January 1946 to September 1953 and was discussed the result of treatment. Based on the agreement of International Committee of cervical cancer, clinical classification of those patients was made into four stages. [table] This indicates that patients in early stage is comparatively small in number. As for the age distribution, 46-50 years old predominates; next comes 51-55, then 41-45. Five times pregnancy (14.3%) and childbirth (14.1%) occupy highest percentage of the patients. The commonest initial somptom is bleeding (74.3%) ; discharge (18.6%), pains in low abdomen (3.6%), lumbago (2.8%). The patients visit the hospital within the following period after the onset of earliest spmptom. [table] The relation between above-mentioned period and prognosis is as follows patients complaining of bleeding. Five-year-cure Rate. 35.1% Patoents complaining of discharge F.Y.C.R. 40.1% Patients complaining of pains F.Y.C.R. 21.2% In cases left untreated more than one year after the initial symptom, F.Y.C.R. shows only 6.3%. Among those patients who came to the hospital within two months complaining of bleeding, cervical carcinoma in III and IV stage amounts as much as 59.3%. This shows that cervical cancer even in fairly advanced stage is often left unfound and reminds us of the necessity of periodical somatoscopy for the early diagnosis of cancer. F. Y. C. R. of 320 operated cases is 53.8%, while that of 663 irradiated cases is 11.3%. The former is far better than the latter. F.Y.C.R. of irradiated cases in JS. stage is as poor as 8.4%, and this makes whole results of radiation treatment worse. 11 cases of primary death of operated cases are reported, but none of irradiated cases.
