This study has been carried out by the Nauta method and the Marchi one, and results obtained are as follows. 1. The long ascending spinal tracts to the brain stem consist of the spinoreticular and spinothalamic tracts. 2. The spinothalamic tract originates exclusively from the first and second cervical segments. After Crossing over through the white anterior commissure it ascends through the ventral layer of the anterior funiculus, the part ventrolateral to the inferior olivary nucleus and the lateral part of the medial lemniscus, and end in the lateral part of the thalamic posterior ventral nucleus and in the nucleus centrum medianum. 3. Degenerating fibers observed scatteredly in the ventral part of the reticular formation and in the lateral part of the central gray substance at the mesencephalic level appears to be branch of the spinothalamic tract, but not of the .pinoreticular tract. 4. Degenerating fibers from the degeneration area of the spinothalamic tract end in the superior and inferior colliculi and in the dorsolateral part of the mesencephalic reticular formation. 5. The opinion of Morin and Thomas (1955) and Seki (1959) that the spinothalamic tract originates from the lateral cervical nucleus was recognized also by us. The view of Brodal and Rexed (1953) that fibers in the dorsolateral part of the lateral funiculus terminate in the lateral cervical nucleus was confirmed by the Nauta method. 6. The spinoreticular tract composed of crossed and uncrossed fibers in nearly equal numbers terminates mostly in the reticular formation, and can be followed rostrally as far as the middle level of the inferior colliculus. Some fibers from the degeneration area of this tract end in the nucleus of Deiters. 7. The termination of the medial lemniscus in the reticular formation can not be so finely observed. 8. Some fibers of the spinocerebellar tract reach their destination in the facial nucleus, nucleus of Deiters and f nucleus of Messen and Olszewski.
