Blood component levels were estimated every month for a year in 32 children (ranging in age from 3 to 11) living under the same condition in one of the child welfare facilities to study their seasonal fluctuations. The following results were obtained: 1. Seasonal Fluctuations. Hematocrit values and serum Na and K levels showed a regular fluctuation, rising in winter and falling in summer. Serum Ca levels slightly rose in summer and slightly fell in winter. K content of the erythrocyte showed a two regular cycle fluctuation: it rose in winter and summer, and fell in spring and autumn. K content of the erythrocyte showed the greatest fluctuation, followed by serum K levels, serum Na levels, hematocrit values and serum Ca levels in the indicated order. Leukocyte and neutrophil cell counts increased in spring and autumn and decreased in summer; lymphocyte counts decreased in spring and autumn and increased in summer; and eosinophil cell counts showed an irregular fluctuation. Eosinophil cell counts showed the greatest fluctuation, followed by leukocyte counts, lymphoyte counts and neutrophil cell counts in the indicated order. 2. Fluctuations in Blood Component Levels in Relation to Age. The younger the children, the lower were hematocrit values and serum K levels. There was a difference of significance in serum Na levels between the children at school age and in infancy; K content of the erythrocyte in infancy was more or less similar to that in children at the former half of school age, but was slightly higher than that in children at the latter half of school age. There were no differences in serum Ca levels in children of different ages.
