Our systematic anti-tuberculosis administration for the teachers of elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in Chiba Prefecture caused the number of cases to tuberculosis among them to decrease year by year, from 1949 to 1958. For example, in 1951 the number showed the maximum 700 (4.54% of the total of teachers enrolled at the time), and in 1958, it was decreased to 142 (0.85 % of the tatal of teachers enrolled at the time). We owe this decrease to the following facts: a. Strict inspection in case of adoption. b. Early detection at the periodical mass medical examination and the measures taken for the cases detected. c. Teachers in recovery stage of tuberculosis were not permitted to resume office unless they stood a strict test. d. We were faithful in carrying out chemoprophylaxis of tuberculosis. These cases enabled us to realize satisfying results in our anti-tuberculosis administration for the teachers in Chiba Prefecture.
