Experiments were carried out to the production of brain tumors, especially gliomas, by using the fetal tissue and various carcinogenic substances. The siibstances used were selected from among those which, though already known to use, had not hither-to been used in brain tumor production, and a new technique was employed to give them. Histppathological and other studies were made on the neoplasms that were thus caused to grow. Administration of cholesterol-tar, 20-methylcholanthrene, 1. 2. 5. 6-dibenzanthracene. 9.10-dimethyl-1.2-benzanthracene and 2-acetaminofluorene (into the brain inserted cholesterol pellet) resulted in the growth of 8 fibrosarcomas, 4 squamous cell carcinomas and 1 spongioblastoma polare, bipolar. No cancer work has yet reported the production of brain tumor by 2-acetaminofluorene; this is the first report in this field. Neoplasms developed in a more or less similar manner. Cancer arose when groupe of cells turned into a tumor. Electron microscopic studies of the tumor cells showed changes in the nucleus, mitochondria and other part of the cell. Transplantation and preservation of the brain tumor tissue, as well as its uptake of dye, were also investigated.
