The course of albuminuria in nephrotoxic nephrosis, with special reference to its relation to the function of the adrenal cortex was examined in albino rats. The following results were obtained: 1. In adrenalectomized rats, albuminuria was expedited and increased in the early period of nephrotoxic nephrosis, but the residual albuminuria did not persist, as in normal animals. Adrenalectomy caused residual albuminuria to disappear, while the administration of cortisone caused it to recur. 2. The administration of insulin inhibited the appearance of early and late albuminuria. Cortisone, when given along with nephrotoxin, completely inhibited the appearance of albuminuria. 3. The difference in the action of cortisone at different periods during the course of nephrotoxic nephrosis seems to be due to the secondary effect. Cortisone enhanced the fallin blood sugar levels caused by the administration of nephrotoxin (probably by enhancing the secretion of insulin).
