A histopathologic study of the recurrent renal lesions induced by 1) repeated intravenous injections of anti-rabbit-kidney duck serum into rabbits in the beginning of the course of clamping of their left renal arteries for 15 minutes at intervals of 1 to 2 months (Group 1), 2) single intravenous injection of anti-kidney serum according to this procedure and second injection without clamping of renal arteries at intervals of 1 month (Group 2), and 3) vice versa at intervals of 1.5 months (Group 3) is presented. The mode of development of the renal lesions in the same individual animals was ascertained on the basis of the findings of biopsy materials (bilateral kidneys) surgically resected repeatedly. In a few cases of long duration injected with relatively large amounts of anti-kidney serum (Group 1) the right kidneys demonstrated an appearance of contracted kidney with smooth surface or that of granular atrophy due to recurrence of Masugi nephritis accompanied by vessel changes. The left kidneys of these cases, however, showed a tendency to compensatory hypertrophy accompanied by slight and focal nephritis. On the other hand, a milder unilateral nephritis was induced in 2 cases by giving, smaller quantities of antikidney serum. In Groups 2 and 3, histologic manifestations of the recurrence of glomerulonephritis were recognizable. These lesions were fresh glomerulitis in the well preserved glomeruli, fresh epithelial crescnt formation, transformation, of glomerular capillary and intercapillary connective tissue into enmeshed structure in the glomerular loops which demonstrated sclerosis of the walls due to the first attack of glomerulitis (recurrent glomerulitis in situ), etc.
