In an attempt to cause the formation of amyloid substance in the viscera, healthy rabbits were injected consecutively with the extract of the inflammatory skin of the rabbits in which dermatitis had been developed by application of croton oil. Though the experiment was not wholly successful, amyloid deposits were found in the gastric wall and other organs. Then an attempt was made to cause amyloid degeneration of the viscera to develop through absorption, by transplanting the slip of inflammatory skin taken from the rabbits, in which croton oil dermatitis had been developed, into the subcutaneous tissue or abdominal cavity of health rabbits. The experiment was unsuccessful. A further experiment was carried out to study changes in protein fractions at each stage of inflammation, as well as to establish the relationship between a change in protein fractions of the serum and a change in those of the tissue of the inflammatory skin. Croton oil was applied to the skin of rabbits over a long period to cause dermatitis. Serum protein fractions and protein fractions of the tissue of the inflammatory skin at each stage of inflammation were determined by means of filterpaper electrophoresis and by using Tiselius' apparatus. Albumin and γ-globulin showed marked changes, indicating that they might play an important part in the formation of amyloid substance.
