The X-ray findings of the maxillary sinuses following injections of 20 per cent Moljodol or Pyraceton into them were compared with the findings of chronic maxillary sinusitis at operation. X-ray findings indicated clearly the types of inflammatory changes of the mucosa. The author called special attention to the fact that roentgenography of the sinuses with the contrast medium was of great value for the diagnosis of sinusitis. The author studied the relation between the type of X-ray findings and the excretory function of the maxillary sinus with the contrast medium. The majority of sinuses with thin mucosa discharged rapidly contrast medium but of the sinus, those with irregular surface comparatively smoothly, while those with thick, but smooth surface tardily. X-ray examinations of the maxillary sinus with 20 per cent Moljodol are not only valuable as a method for test of function of the epithel but that of subepithelial tissue. A condition in which there is latent disturbance in circulation of the fluid of the subepithelial tissue has been termed latent paranasal sinusitis.
