A detailed study of the X-ray pictures of the heart in a group of 36 hookworm carriers and a group of 36 persons negative for hookworms (the control) has revealed the following results: (1) There was no significant difference between the two groups in the dimensions of the heart. (2) In the position of the heart, there was no significant difference between the two groups; in the carrier group, there were 18 (50 %) with the heart in the normal position and 18 (50 %) with the heart displaced to the right, while in the control group, there were 16 (44.4 %) with the heart in the normal position and 20 (55.6 %). with the heart displaced to the right. (3) When classified on the basis of the ratio length/breadth of the heart, many in both groups were found to have the heart of normal as well as broad and short form. (4) When classified on the basis of the inclination angle of the heart, 8 (22.2 %) had the standing heart, 14 (38.9 %) the normal heart and 14 (38.9 %) the lying heart in the carrier group, and 4 (11.1 %) had the standing heart, 13 (36.1 %) the normal heart and 19 (52.8 %) the lying heart in the control group. The x^2 test showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups. (5) There was no significant difference between the two groups in the area of the heart.
