Twenty necropsied cases of sepsis treated by penicillin were histopathologically examined using nontreated twenty cases of control groups. Among these twenty cases of sepsis, ten cases showed endocarditis while the remaining ten cases do not show it. Same as in the control twenty cases of sepsis. In this series the author pointed out the effects of penicillin treatment remaining upon purulent, inflamatory degenerative changes and bacterial allergic changes in the chief organs and gave us the following conclusion; 1) Diffuse glomerulonephritis were proved in 40% of the treated endocarditic group, 20% of the treated control group and 10% of the nontreated endocarditic group, but none of the cases in nontreated control groupshow diffuse glomerulonephritis. In the treated group more cases showed the various vascular changes such as thromboarteritis, thrombophlebitis, fibrinoid schweing of vascular wall, Masson bodies in lungs and hepatic necrosis than those in nontreated group did. 2) Penicillin treatment induced subsidence of the inflamatory cellular infiltration, fibrosis and hyalin cicatrication of the endocarditic lesions. And also disappearance of bacteria and diminishment of metastatic abscess in the various organs were pointed out in the treated group. 3) No qualitative differences were clarified between the group with endocarditis and without endocarditis, except infarction. The findings described in (1) can be regarded as allergic tissue changes, and these might be caused by antigen-antibody reaction due to the prolonged septicemia of the lowered virulent bacteria by penicillin treatment. Accordingly the author suggests that so far as there exist any infections foci in a body, in spite of penicillin treatment the allergic changes always can occur. And also he refered its significance in the clinical subjects.
