The author has undertaken to investigate experimental allergy of Escherica coli using 29 rabbits. The heated vaccin of Escherica coli, A-38 type was repeatedly injected into the aural veins for the previous sensitization, and then after the agglutination titre fairly well elevated the effective injection into the portal veins or mesenteriac veins followed. The effective injection was also repeated up to twelve times at the most frequent case, and resulted in the following specific lesions in the various organs such as kidneys, lungs, hearts and livers: (1) Two cases of diffuse glomerulonephritis and seven cases of so-called glomerulo nephrosis by Fahr were histologically proved. And in this series there is a more marked tendency of the adhesion between glomerular tuft and Bowman's capsule than that of the experimental nephritis used by the other type of antigen. (2) Five cases of Masson body like granuloma, abundant cases of alveolitis were recognized in the lungs. The author gives the suggestion that thrombocapillaritis in the alveolar wall might develop these Masson bodies. (3) Abundant cases of so-called serous endocarditis by Bomig and one case of interstitial carditis was recognized. Comparing to the other type of sensitizing experiments using such . as serum protein as the antigen, the vasculo-mesenchymal tissue changes in the interstitium of the myocardium were rather scanty in this series. (4) The hepatic lesions similar to that of the eclamptic liver were also frequently observed in this series. (5) Abundant cases of thromboarteritis were recognized in the arterioles of the lungs, livers and hearts. In few cases the quite similar histologic feature to the periarteritis nodosa was recognized showing fibrinoid necrosis of swelling of the madia. (6) The control animals which were not previously sensitized but given introportally a large amount of vaccin or freshly cultured Escherica coli, revealed no significant abnormalities in any organs. All these pathological lesions exhibit allergic tissue changes in the vasculomesenchymal system, which can be easily understood by the conception of allergic mechanism of vaccin of Escherica coli. From the above described standpoints, the author concluded, even though Escherica coli might not demonstrate any pathogenicity for rabbits, the marked allergic pathological changes may occur in the various organs if these bacteria act as the antigen.
