The urinary Pregnanediol is said to be a metabolic product from Progesterone and Desoxycorticosterone. But in children, the genital secretions are poor, the levels of urinary Preg. indicate the rate of DOC secretion from the Adrenal Cortex. The author measured the level of urinary Preg. in children by the method developed by KOSHIISHI. 1) The urinary Preg. level of the healthy children showed a tendency to become larger as the age advanced. 2) In Dystrophy, Nephritis, and liver diseases the urinary Preg. level showed as low as trace. 3) The urinary Preg. levels measured in Dysentery were found to be within normal range, but in the majority of the cases of Ekiri they showed as low as trace. 4) In early childhood, the Adrenal Cortex belongs to the convalescent stage from the physiological atrophy stage in the infant period. And so, perhaps, the function of the Adrenal Cortex in this period is so instabile that it easily responds to the "stress," and when attacked by dysentery bacilli it shows shock resembling symptoms.
