38 cases of tuberculosis at the early stage have been diagnosed by abdominal X rays and classified into the following groups: 19 cases of peritonitis, 8 cases of intestinal tuberculosis, 4 cases of mesenteric tuberculosis, I case of intestinal and mesenteric tuberculosis and 6 cases with no demonstrable lesions. Clinical examinations of these cases revealed the following: 1) Peritonitis, intestinal tuberculosis and mesenteric tuberculosis occur soon after Mantoux conversion. 2) The existence of intestinal tuberculosis was observed concurrently in 19 cases of peritonitis, showing that there existed close relations between the two diseases. The outcome of peritonitis depended upon whether or not intestinal tuberculosis was involved and, if so, whether it was minimal or advanced. The prognosis of peritonitis, when pleural complications existed, was unfavorable.
