• Akiko Yosano's Tangled Hair, published in 1901, had a sensational impact on Japanese literature, reviving Romanticism just as leading authors were turning to Naturalism. From these poems onward, this Osaka's Lady reshaped the tanka into a modern poetic form. Her tanka are one-of-a-kind artworks of passion, love, emancipation of women and glorification of the body.
