In this work, a simple single U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed to enhance impedance bandwidth of a microstrip-fed monopole antenna. The impedance bandwidth of a microstrip-fed monopole designed at 3.2GHz is enhanced and a bandwidth of 1.3GHz is realized. The impedance bandwidth variation due to DGS geometric parameters is also studied.
