Our ability to speak and comprehend a language illustrates that unconscious linguistic knowledge exits in the mind/brain. This knowledge is in part acquired by nurture (i.e., by receiving inputs from the linguistic community) and in part originates in nature (i.e., genetically determined specializations for language). This brief note surveys recent scientific findings which suggest, as maintained in the Chomskian linguistics, that innate properties of the human brain play central roles in language learning and use.
