Transform and iterative methods are used to reconstruct computed tomography (CT) images from a projection dataset. The filtered back-projection (FBP) procedure, which is a transform method, is widely used for CT image reconstruction because of its high reconstruction speed. However, the FBP method produces images with a lot of radial artifacts, which are well-known as metal artifact, for a defective projection dataset with lack of data. Although iterative methods using difference equations can produce better-quality images even for such defective projection dataset, their reconstruction speeds are slower than that of the FBP method. This report presents a new approach for reconstructing CT images. It consists of a continuous-time dynamical system described by differential equations. Using several examples we demonstrate that our system works well. Moreover, a block diagram of our system is drawn to indicate that our system can be created as an analog electronic circuit. An implementation in hardware can yield good-quality, high-speed image reconstruction.
