Butterfly communities were monitored by transect counts in two types of vegetation areas of the Arakawa River, Adachi-ku, Tokyo at 2005. A total 17 species were recorded in each of the two census sites. 12 species of the 17 were recorded in Ogi, and 14 were recorded in Odai. 9 species were recorded at each site. The values of species diversity index (H' and 1-λ) on Odai site tended to be higher than Ogi site. Comparison of the existence ratio of environmental stage (ER), RRrs and ERus in Ogi were higher than Odai, ERps and ERas in Odai were higher than Ogi. These indices suggested that richer butterfly assemblages remained at Odai site than at Ogi site.
