The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between the influencing agents' need for influence and influencing attempts moderating by hardness of goal-attainment. It was hypothesized that the greater need for influence the influencing agents had in a competitive situation, the more frequently the agents would influence others when the agents were in a disadvantageous position for goal-attainment. The relative degree of advantage of the agents was manipulated by two kinds of resources distributed among members of four-person groups. Influencing attempts were produced when Japanese student subjects tried to get other players' resources. Correlational analysis nearly supported the hypothesis. Furthermore, it was found that holding resources did not always result in influencing others when the influencing agents were in an advantageous position for goal-attainment.
