It has been argued that Hikaru Genji becomes politically powerfull from the Miotsukushi chapter. I think that his modelling coincides closely with the ideal prescription of chancellor of the State Council in the system of goverment offices in the Heian period. The chancellor had to instruct the emperor on the duty and moral doctrine, conduct all state affairs, and create a peacefull society. I argue that Hikaru Genji is the embodiment of the ideal of the chancellor.
