To reveal the C5a receptor-mediated monocyte-selective chemoattraction of the homodimer of guinea pig S19 ribosomal protein (RP S19), leukocyte chemotaxis measurements were performed in the guinea pig. The dimer of a recombinant RP S19 attracted guinea pig monocytes but suppressed neutrophil chemotactic movement. Both effects were C5a receptor-mediated. The guinea pig RP S19 dimer possessed a dual ligand effect, agonistic to the monocyte C5a receptor and antagonistic to the neutrophil receptor.
