Fish fauna in the coastal area of Nomozaki, Nagasaki, western-Kyushu, Japan was surveyed by underwater daytime observation from October 2006 to June 2008. A total of 108 fish species of 48 families were recorded; 63.3% of them were subtropical (St) species, 28.4% were temperate (Tm) species and 8.3% were large area (La) species. Nineteen species were not recorded on the previous study conducted in the coastal area of Nomozaki about 35 years ago. Seventeen species of them were St species and 2 species were Tm species, resulting in that 13.3% increase in St species, and 6.4% and 7.0% decrease in Tm and La species, respectively. The increase in St species in this study might be influenced by the increase in surface water temperature in the northern part of the East China Sea.
