• 海老井英次教授退官記念号〈Special Issue〉dedicated to Professor EBII EijiA 'national language' is undoubtedly strongly affected by that nation's ideology. "American School," written by Nobuo Kojima, describes how three English teachers encounter difficulties resulting from the political and ideological differences between the Japanese and English languages. This paper aims to examine "American School" in the context of the period when Japan was occupied by America, focussing particularly upon the political aspect of language and the nature of national language.
